How to decrease your bounce rate with a faster WordPress site

This is something I’ve always had a problem with until recently. I’ve noticed that I’m getting a lot more views to my site and longer stays because my site is a lot faster due to a number of things. A few of the plugins that were recommended to me was the WP Super Cache. This is a great, great tool that definitely helps to increase your site speed most aggressively. Images, words, and even videos are uploaded really quickly. My Playstation Blog suffered from slow site speed often due to huge spikes in traffic for some really popular topics. Sometimes, I would post game tournaments or livestream for big game events that would garner me a 700 unique visitors in less than an hour. Of course, you need something that can handle that influx of traffic at that fast speed! I would get tickets or so from the host service of my site, and I was like, “You know what? Maybe I should find something a bit better optimized”. This service works wonders, and in combination with a plug-in called Minify – this greatly compressed the images, and javascript code to make the site run more efficiently.

If you have more of a beginner site, then W3 Total Cache is a solid service. I actually use that on this site because my blog here is less prone on graphics, videos, etc. It’s more text and content based, so of course it’s not going to be extremely boggled down by something more visual. For some sites, the Total Cache works a lot better, and other sites – the Super Cache works better. The choice is really yours to see which one fits! These are just a few of the plugins I use to increase speed. It’s VERY imperative that you have these types of things in place, so that you don’t lose traffic, get or complaints, or worse LOSE a POTENTIAL SALE!!!! Under this paragraph, check out a few of the links that will give you some really useful tips on how to make your site run much faster!

Content plus Traffic equals Dollar Signs

I cannot stress this enough because a lot of people focus on the monetization before they actually develop the blog. Make sure your content is on point! Yes, the content! When you have great content, it encourages people to get on your site! Why say go to the party at 10, there’s no music, there’s no food..no one is there. Having a site without the content is like not having the chicken or beef to go with the sandwich. It’s imperative to have the content. This is what gets people to stay on your site! When you build up your content, that gives you a lot of value. Having great content helps you on the major search engines, and as a result you will get a lot more traffic to your site!

Website Traffic

Traffic goes without saying because great content leads into the traffic! When you have something worth of value to tell someone, then your traffic will build naturally. I started this site on September 2, and I already have over nearly 1500 unique visitors in that short amount of time. You want to know why? My content is solid! That solid content that I share via Twitter, Facebook, and other Social Media plus Hubpages and the like will spread based off the content value. Hell, I even got invited to Technorati’s writing team for Business related blogs because they value the work I put in. That’s how important content is to traffic. Traffic within itself is gained through how you distribute your content. Twitter is a great way to spread content because people can retweet you. I’ve said this before, but I want to reiterate! Get your followers and your prospects involved. When you engage in content, you have the chance to promote yourself. In most cases, they’ll promote your stuff as well! Do not underestimate the value of how your content affects your traffic. Real writing and real messages speak on its own. When you start to really distribute that information, you’ll get more exposure through the search engines for backlinks.

Now without saying..how does the content and the traffic help to gain you money. Well, it took me about 6 months to start gaining money on my Playstation blog. People wanted to start advertising, and also other sites wanted to use my blog to advertise different sites. Now, it’s important to note that you should not let the monetization affect your content. When you do find advertisers, or rather advertisers find you, make sure it somewhat correlates to your key topics. That will help you in the long run! When you combine the power of your great content and your traffic. You’ll be 2 steps ahead of the game, and you’ll eventually make money. Whether it’s a pay per blog, banner ads, text links, contextual ads, or Adsense. Keep the content and the traffic at bay!

Functionality over Fancy and how it affects your bounce rate

All right. Well, I actually got inspired by a problem I had to deal with earlier on my last blog, but I fixed it.

Anyway, a lot of people put so much focus in creating a fancy blog design, which is great to capture your audience but make them stay there. However, more can actually create less than a buzz because your site’s speed or functions may suffer in the process!

To help increase your site’s speed one thing you can actually install on your WordPress site is W3 Cache. It helps to improve your site’s performance! This is great for loading times, and when you have a bunch of images, video clips, etc. Excellent, excellent way to help you with creating a speedier site. It’s very crucial when people first log onto your site that the load time does not exceed 7-8 seconds. Otherwise, your site will be regarded as slow, and the bounce rate will be quite high (in a bad day). Another thing is that Google actually passes over your site, and deems it less a priority if your site’s slow. They take into consideration how people will perceive your site and it’s impact on the search engine.

Another thing to worry about is the graphics, themes, and more. Here’s actually where I made my mistake. All right, so I wanted to get fancy and add a very cool template with a bunch of features. However, it was a broken theme, and it caused my site to completely shutdown. Now, for a site that gets over 1,000+ visits a day, that was potentially money lost right there. It’s important to always maintain your site, and make sure that it functions. Now, I was scrambling for at least an hour or so before I could find the problem. A good resource to go to when your site crashes do to a broken theme specifically for WordPress users is Change WordPress Theme in PhpMyAdmin. There you’ll actually find a short set of directions, that will greatly help you with your site. They are easy to follow, and you are sure to fix your site in a matter of moments.
