Google steps it up on a social and virtual spectrum with Google’s Project Glass

Google Project Glass

A friend just showed me an article delineating prospects of a new invention of Google

The long time rumored project is in full fledged fruition. Now, this is something I didn’t quite know that was in existant, and it’s no wonder they haven’t really been pushing Google + (in the media) lately. They have an even bigger market to tackle (the mobile and social market). This is a great niche for Google if they really delve into it like they should. Now, for the details..why does this matter for you?

Well, there are tremendous possibilities. For example, if you are the on the go kind of person, this IS PERFECT! Let’s say you are trying to find the location of your next meeting, but have no idea. Well, with this Google Project you’ll be able to have your own built-in navigation system which details where you are going right on your walk. This is pretty cool, it’s almost like your own built-in navigation system. Let me not get into the possibility of long trips. If you are a family trip or something and have down time, this would be the perfect way to stay in touch with your clients, you’ll be able to do voice chat amongst other things to keep in direct contact which is great!

From a blogging/social media standpoint, this would be the next level thing to have to make it a lot easier. You’ll be able to do voice commands while you vocally write down posts, and you’ll be able to share with a number of different social bookmarking or social networks. This makes it a breeze to keep your stuff updated. From a marketing standpoint, you’ll put a new meaning to virtual marketing, that’s for sure. Just imagine holding seminars where you do shows through your Project Glass! WOW! Incredible, right? Well, see what the project has to offer so far down here. Enjoy! And check out my last few posts on Google Plus

How to Optimize your site for Mobile Users

Smartphone

This is definitely the next wave as more users don’t sit down on their laptops or computers, but function with their smartphones. Smartphones typically have a lot of the functions that a lot of computers do as far as surfing the web, but still it takes a toll on the memory. That’s why it’s important to take heed to some guidelines to make you and your readers’ life easier as far as serving your site on a mobile device.

A few of the things that stuck with me from this Social Media Examiner issue is:

“Simplify. Then Simplify Again. And Again

The first step in creating a mobile site is determining what content you’ll include. Given the restricted amount of screen space, it’s important to figure out what key pieces of information your visitors will probably be looking for.

A store locator? Probably. A “Contact Us” form with 13 different fields to fill out? Not so much.

It’s also important to keep the steps involved in going from entry point to purchase as simple as possible. Fandango does a great job of this by eliminating much of their non-essential content to quickly bring their consumers what they want: movie times.”

And also, they made a great point on how having all of this flash boggles down on the site. Even if the site is accessed by a computer or laptop, a lot of huge graphics still have a big impact on the site speed. As you all know, if the site can’t be easily accessed then your bounce rate will greatly increase. However, this goes deeper into why Flash or Java should be avoided all together via smartphones:

“The obvious reason for avoiding Flash is that Apple products do not support Flash and have declared that they have no intention to do so in the future. Because iPhones make up about 30% of the smartphone market, a significant portion of your audience may not be able to access your content if you use Flash. Similarly, many phones do not support Java, and even if they do, using Java can be a huge drag on load time.”

Now that I think about, I see why a lot of users visited my older site on a mobile platform quite a bit. There’s not too many huge files that boggle down the speed, and it’s actually pretty easy to navigate. I mean, if I were on mobile web, I’d want the interface to be less strenuous as possible, so that way I can get right to my point. After reading this post, I’ll be on a mission to make my sites even more mobile optimized.
